competitive international meetings and conventions market.” The project team for the BMO Centre Expansion includes: architects Stantec, Populous, and S2; convention venue operations specialist HLT Advisory Inc.; urban design specialists O2; project manager M3 Development; and construction manager PCL Construction. The BMO centre remains operational through construction, hostingmore than 1,000 events annually, so an additional space just northeast of the existing centre, known as Hall F, was also created to reduce the disruption of the expansion’s construction to those events. That addition comprised of roughly 100,000 square feet was managed by Calgary-based firms Gibbs Gage and Stuart Olson. When assembling that project team, Clare says that CMLC looked for leading firms and specialists with an expertise in this specialized building type. Due to the importance of the BMO Centre expansion to not only the Rivers District, but the city as a whole, she says “it was important we had that expertise at the table to design the facility so that it could meet the goals of the district.” “We led a really robust and detailed procurement process to select our consultants,” she explains. “We started with our design team, which was Stantec, Populous, and S2. Then we looked for a construction manager who could work alongside that team and ensure that we could deliver the project as envisioned, on schedule and on budget. We chose PCL very early on – they have been part of the team since the very early days.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
