The Construction Source

From the beginning, that project team was tasked with designing and delivering a building “that captures the essence of Calgary, conveying the best of the city to convention patrons and Calgarians alike.” To achieve that objective, the team designed the new building’s interior spaces to be “ample and adaptable,” with bright, open and scalable bathrooms, meeting rooms wired for instant connectivity, as well as smaller breakout areas where smaller teams could meet and connect. For the exterior, meanwhile, they designed the outdoor plaza to engender a sense of “open space,” while also paying homage to the old Stampede Corral venue, which originally stood on that site. The new design for the BMO Centre Expansion was unveiled in June 2020. Construction on Hall F was completed that same summer. Foundation work for the rest of the expansion began inAugust2021.Atthattime,Halls B and C – which both remain active through construction – gained temporary additions to enable continued, full-service visitor access. Currently, CMLC is working hard to ensure all other components of the complex project are proceeding as planned. It remains track for completion in June, 2024, on time and on budget. “It’s an exciting project,” she sums up. “It will be a worldclass facility, furthering Calgary’s position as a thriving and dynamic hub for trade and tourism, and advancing our city’s position on the world’s stage.” DECEMBER 2022
