The Construction Source

MARCH 2026 “When we have a project manager go to a jobsite, they can pull out an iPad and have access to everything at their fingertips,” Matthew says. Riva uses Buildxact for cost estimating, cost tracking, scheduling, and invoicing, and Miro for quality control tracking, QA/QC meeting workflows, and documentation. “All of that is then linked into our internal SharePoint, which is a central area that we can access anytime, anywhere,” Matthew adds. Clients are invited into that ecosystem as well, so they can see progress and documentation as it happens. “Technology is one of the big things that sets us apart – it’s really allowed us to just be more efficient in what we do.” The same innovative and forward-thinking mindset drives Riva’s approach to construction methodologies. “We’re always trying to look at the forefront of what’s the new best thing that could be married with what’s existing,” Matthew says. On multi-unit builds, for instance, Riva is currently exploring options for modular and panelized building, which they believe will allow them to build more efficiently without compromising quality. “To me, the future of construction is really going to be in modular,” Matthew says. “North America – and Nova Scotia in particular – has been slower to adopt that technology, but it’s very much part of the future. It’s something we’re making part of our regular repertoire so we can adjust with the times.”
