The Construction Source

MARCH 2026 A beautiful thing Currently, SRM is applying lessons learned from their previous projects – in particular their work on the Skwlāx Rapid Housing Project – to support other communities, including work with Lytton First Nation (LFN) on their new Nuuautin IR2B subdivision. That project also involves rebuilding after a fire – in this case, the Lytton Creek Wildfire of 2021. Following that fire, 39 temporary modular homes were constructed, along with a new community centre and band office, but many additional homes were still needed. At the beginning of 2025, members of LFN visited Skwlāx to review what they had accomplished in their own community, and then a partnership was formed in order to create a new subdivision in theirs. Since then, a lot of progress has been made very quickly – in September 2025, LFN, SRM and subcontractors came together for a ground blessing ceremony at the site. David personally attended that event and shared the ceremonial golden shovel with LFN Chief Niakia Hanna. That meant a lot to him: “To see the entire community come out and be a part of it, and to see everyone just connect, it was very special,” he says. “Honestly, right now I feel like I’m a part of the family out there. I spend at least one or two days a week within their community. It’s been great to see the progress being made and to see them being able to bring back all their members. It’s been an absolutely beautiful thing.” Moving forward, SRM’s vision is to continue assisting and enhancing communities like Lytton, as well as communities in other neighbour First Nations. They also envision branching off into new building segments, particularly the mining and underground infrastructure sectors, where they foresee a consistent pipeline of work to keep their employees busy. “We want to keep growing, but we don’t want to be the biggest company,” David concludes. “We just want to keep being sustainable, keep helping our community, keep helping our neighbours, and keep delivering really great quality projects.”
