The Construction Source

JULY 2026 Managing those shifts without losing momentum – or losing the client – requires a particular kind of communication. For David, that word means something specific. Communicating is not just about responding quickly – though that matters too. It is also about reading the person on the other side of the conversation. “Understanding each client individually is the key,” he explains. “Every client has a different personality, a different way of operating. Sometimes you deal with people who are extremely meticulous and analytical, and you have to shift into that mode – speak their language, help them understand what you’re doing in a way that resonates with them. And sometimes you deal with people who are more straightforward, construction-minded. You shift gears for them too.” Communicating also means keeping clients in the loop, David adds, even when the new is routine. “People really appreciate it when you update them. Something as simple as a quick email or text letting them know what’s going on – if they’re waiting on a quote, or if something is taking a little longer than expected – it puts them at ease.”
