The Construction Source

It is precisely this problem-solving capability – the ability to design, engineer, manufacture, and build structures that other contractors decline or lack the expertise to attempt – that defines the company’s niche. Competitors operating in the same market tend to gravitate toward straightforward replicable jobs they can do over and over. Backyard Paradise by SunCo has built their reputation on the projects those competitors pass on. “That’s our niche in the marketplace,” Roger says. “We are the custom builder that nobody else can really compete with, because nobody else has the team and the expertise to do what we can do. That’s not a slight on other companies, they just have a different business model – they like to do quick and easy little boxes on the back of the house, they like to get in, get out, get paid and move on to the next project. We get a few of those every year, but by and large, most of our projects are much more comprehensive.” Moving forward, Roger and his partners are preparing to scale. The groundwork has been laid methodically over the past several years – documented workflows, standard operating procedures, and a staffed-up team capable of supporting significantly higher production volume. The company is also actively expanding their dealer network across the country, equipping partner contractors with the training and product knowledge needed to replicate the quality and range of what the Headingley team delivers locally. Alongside that geographic expansion, the company is planning to broaden their product offering. Having built exclusively with aluminum structures to date, Backyard Paradise by SunCo is now positioned to introduce timber-framed structures into their portfolio – integrating wood construction with aluminum and glass windows and doors to create hybrid designs with a distinct aesthetic. Several such projects already exist in THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
