THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA Peter speaks with particular admiration for the stonemasons on his direct team – men who spend hours chipping, carving, and shaping materials by hand. “The amount of time they spend carving fireplaces and doing really unique work – it’s kind of a lost art,” Peter says. “For us to keep these people busy, appreciated, and inspired to keep doing what they’re doing is something we’re really proud of.” Ornella Homes is also proud of the roster of subcontractors and trades they have refined over the years. At this point, Peter describes those partners as carefully vetted and tested – they understand the company’s standards and they know what to expect when they come on site. “We have a best practices approach to everything we do, whether it’s forming, framing, or drywall,” Peter explains. “Every trade that comes through adheres to those best practices. They know – based on our past work together – that we do things a certain way, so there’s no surprise when it takes a little longer, because we’re doing it right rather than fast.” As one prominent example of Ornella Homes “doing it right,” Peter points to a recently completed home in the neighbourhood of Mineola in Mississauga – a Frank Lloyd Wrightinspired modern residence built on a ravine lot.
