clients, the company focuses on acquiring their own infill sites and developing new homes on them. The company targets established Ottawa neighbourhoods such as the Glebe, Old Ottawa South, Westboro, and the Golden Triangle, seeking sites where additional units can be added. After acquiring a piece of land, Bateman Development designs and builds a property that reflects the qualities of the site and needs of prospective buyers. Each Bateman project is different, but all are guided by the same standard: quality. “At every step of the process, we strive for quality,” he says. “We choose strong sites, work with excellent architects and trades, and hold ourselves to a very high standard.” At the beginning of each project, Allan says the company carefully selects the right architectural partner. When they want a more contemporary aesthetic, they turn to architects with a modern sensibility. For a project with complex regulatory or approval challenges, they try to engage someone who “drills down” into the technicalities and leaves nothing to chance. Bateman Development takes a similarly selective approach with subcontractors, and once the company finds partners who meet its standards, it tends to work with them long term. The company doesn’t like to shop around with each new project. Instead, the company prefers to work with the same trusted partners who can consistently deliver the quality it expect. APRIL 2026
