it. That made the transition very easy.” Prior to officially starting a division in Canada, Lumon only had a dealer representative in the country. When a prolific multi-family developer became interested in their product, they decided they needed a more direct presence, and in May of 2011 they opened their first office in Cookstown, Ontario. Since then, the company has opened offices in Vaughan and Stoney Creek in Ontario, as well as Langley in British Columbia. Lumon Canada has also grown in terms of renown and awareness, largely as a result of the relationships they have developed with builders, architects, and developers across the country. And though Lumon Canada’s profile has grown, Henry admits there is still a ways to go, as the wheels of change tend to turn slowly in the construction industry: “We’re becoming more known, but we’re not all the way there yet,” he says. “The construction industry is generally a very conservative-minded industry and it usually takes a bit to embrace new ideas from Europe. We are seeing that happening now.” It helps, Henry adds, that they have been embraced by clients like Mattamy Homes – which is one of the largest developers of homes and communities in Canada, and one of Lumon’s first developer clients in the country. Henry recalls having a Christmas luncheon with their Vice President of Operations late last year: “As he said to me, they are on board.
