When it comes to their subcontractors, meanwhile, Albert says they have relationships that predate even the founding of WinnPro Construction. In some of those cases, the companies they work with are on their second generation of ownership. “We’ve been very loyal to our subcontractors,” Albert says. “Our subcontractors are the reason we are where we are. We use reputable ones, we use ones that are fully recognized by the safety board, and we reuse them.” That’s not to say, however, that the company doesn’t pay attention to pricing. They work in the commercial sector, so they understand the importance of being cost effective. They don’t necessarily have to be the cheapest, Albert says, as customers will also weigh their history and track record, but they do need to be competitive – and thus, so must their subcontractors. At the same time, they also believe in the importance of loyalty and continuity on site. That’s why within every subcontracting discipline, they strive to maintain relationships with three or four companies with whom they can continually look to for pricing. “That keeps the familiarity high, it keeps the quality high, and it also keeps our costs competitive,” Albert explains.
