tight, with lots of insulation, as well as triple pane windows that are passive certified and made in Germany. Chris and Eleanor have been living in the home for roughly five months, and their reviews are extremely positive: “It’s like a dream,” Chris says. “We’re very happy.” “I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else,” Eleanor says. “Our last house was a terrible inefficient building, and the difference in this home is amazing. We felt it right away.” “We believe in passive house building,” Chris adds. “We talk about it to all our clients, and now we can bring them to our house they can see for themselves. They can touch it; they can feel it; they can experience what it’s like. That was another one of the big reasons we wanted to build it.” Moving forward, Chris and Eleanor’s goal is to build more homes to that passive house standard, and to continuing using their own home as a selling point. At the same time, they do not necessarily want to dramatically up their workload – they are very cautious about growth, as Eleanor enjoys getting to personally know all of their clients, Chris enjoys being personally involved in all their projects, and neither wants to grow the company to the point where that personal involvement is compromised. “If we could figure out a way to simplify the process so we could pump out more passive house buildings with the same quality, we’d certainly look at that,” Chris concludes. “But we don’t want to do anything if it means sacrificing quality. Quality is too important to us.” JUNE 2023
