“If I’m doing a pretty extensive reno on the interior, my goal is that whoever comes into that house when the project is done shouldn’t be able to tell where the rooms were originally. It should be done so well you can’t tell. It should look like this was how this house was always built. I take a lot of pride in that.” “I don’t like to nickel and dime clients,” he continues. “I don’t do this for the money. I do this to make a living, obviously, but it’s truly not about the money for me. I do it because I love to see the transformation of a project from start-to-finish, and I love to see the client’s reaction to it at the end.” To ensure every home is finished to his own personal high standards, Cam is intimately involved with every project he takes on. In fact, he personally does a lot of the labour. He subs out drywall and electrical and plumbing if there are permits involved, but he strives to self-perform as much of everything else as he possibly can. “I’m extremely hands-on,” he says. “I’m there every day and chances are I’m the one on the tools. That’s how I control the quality – I do it, I’m the one responsible for it, and I know it will be done the way I want it done.” When it comes to the subcontractors he does use, Cam says he has built some very strong and lasting relationships. Those relationships, he says, are built on trust. “I know the companies I work with are going to stand behind their work,” he explains. “I’ve got very good trades and I’m very confident in them, but even if they make a mistake, I know they’re going to fix it.
