The Construction Source

Taking care Over the years, Schouten has been involved with some fairly large demolition projects. One example is the Sarnia General hospital – a project that involved the complete demolition and abatement of a vandalized hospital, including meticulous concrete and metal recycling. There, the company’s demolition process involved literally picking apart the abandoned building brick-by-brick, meticulously sorting the concrete and metal for recycling. Concrete was cut into two-by-two-foot squares to be recycled. Ultimately, 93 per cent of the material that came out of the demolition site was recycled. Another large project was the McCormick Factory in London – a project that involved remediating a highly contaminated candy and cookie factory while taking care to protect its architectural elements. The contamination there was extensive, as a long list of substances and hazardous materials were identified DECEMBER 2023
