The Construction Source

“Here on the island, it’s all about word of mouth,” says Randy Mitchell, “and we’ve earned some really good reviews. People have seen the work we’ve done and they’ve responded.” “One of our early jobs was framing a six-unit building,” he recalls. “That client was really happy with how smooth the process went, how we kept control of the project, and how we looked out for all the subtrades. They decided we’d be a perfect fit for their next project, and they gave us the whole thing. That’s how we’ve grown. That’s how we’ve built our reputation.” Randy started his career in construction working with a steel erection company on the island, before going on to work as a project manager with a commercial builder. In 2019, he teamed up with Matt Nabuurs, a Red Seal carpenter, and together they formed Anchored Construction with the vision of “building quality projects” – with an emphasis on quality. “Whether it was renovations, homes, or small commercial work – that didn’t matter to us,” Randy explains. “It all started with the goal of doing work we could be proud of.” Anchored Construction started off small but grew rapidly. Their first few projects were decks, but they quickly progressed into renovations, then additions, then new custom homes. By the fall of 2020, they had even gotten into the multi-residential sector – that’s when they started framing the aforementioned six-unit complex for a local developer. In 2021, they teamed up with two local subcontractors, MacPherson Builders and Straight Edge Construction, and they continued to expand. Last year, they took on their first commercial project. They also started working on a $1.2 million custom home in Stratford, which they recently completed. AUGUST 2022
