The Construction Source

Skwlāx Resource Management (SRM) is a wholly-owned company of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ ecw (SteS) community, located in the Central Interior region of British Columbia. They are a company formed with a purpose and a promise – to create sustainable opportunities for the people of their community, and to foster regional excellence through economic development and construction activities. Since coming together in 2022, SRM has fulfilled their founding promise in a variety of ways. They have played key roles in some of the region’s most impactful heavy civil and infrastructure projects, they have developed and deepened partnerships with a number of important regional stakeholders, and they have greatly expanded their service offering – and their efforts have been rewarded with rapid growth and industry recognition. “Our approach is simple but powerful,” says David Sjodin, business development and engagement manager. “We seek to enhance and expand the operations of current Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ ecw enterprises while also breaking into new fields that can diversify the community’s economic strength. This strategy helps insulate the community from the downturns of specific industries and creates a more resilient and thriving community overall. We’re committed to charting a brighter future for the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ ecw and its people.” David personally comes from a deep background in electrical contracting and project management. He joined SRM within a year of the company’s founding, and was excited by the opportunity to work closer to home while being part of a 100 per cent Indigenous owned company – something he’d never had the chance to do before. After coming aboard, he witnessed – and helped power MARCH 2026
