Toronto, each gaining valuable experience in residential and commercial projects while refining their individual design voices. As they reached a similar point in their personal lives – both starting new families – they began to re-evaluate what they wanted from their careers. They were drawn to the idea of building something together, and together they came up with the concept for “a studio that allowed for flexibility, collaboration, and a more personal, hands-on approach to design.” Rania and Heather formed in 2014 in order to make that idea a reality. What began as a leap of faith between two friends has evolved into a design studio known for layered, timeless interiors that balance beauty with function. At its core, FOHR remains grounded in the same values it was founded on – values including collaboration, integrity, and “designing spaces that truly support the lives of the people who live in them.” Today, FOHR Design Studio remains based in Toronto, with the majority of our work spanning the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions. The company primarily designs and builds where they can remain closely involved throughout the process. That proximity allows their team to maintain strong relationships with trusted contractors, consultants, and trades, and to stay deeply engaged with projects from concept through completion. According to both Rania and Heather, the majority of the firm’s work comes from referrals and word of mouth, or comes as a result of their longstanding relationships with clients, builders, and industry partners. They consider that loyalty “a reflection of trust built over time,” and they credit that trust to a number of factors – with the main factor being how collaborative they are, and to the fact that they don’t have a “prescribed aesthetic” “A big thing that I think differentiates us from other design firms is that we don’t have one specific aesthetic that we’re selling to clients,” Rania explains. “We create the aesthetic of the space based on the client’s aesthetic. Our work is very catered to the individual. I think that’s very desirable to clients. They get a truly customized design, specifically for them and specifically for their space.” Photo: Stephani Buchman MARCH 2026
