whether it’s a wall, a pipe, or a skylight – and a newer product opens the door to a safer, faster solution. All of this has translated into long-standing relationships with some of the largest general contractors in the country. “We knocked on their door and they gave us a chance when we first opened,” Steve says. “Since then, we’ve created a great relationship over the years. They come back every time, and I think they come back because of the service we provide. When they’re in a pinch, we drop everything and make sure they’re happy.” Moving forward, Scaffex’s goal is to continue nurturing that relationship, as well as their relationships with their other longstanding clients. They also want to continue earning the loyalty of their team in-house. Currently, that team numbers between 45 and 50 people directoy, including multiple in-house engineers. Meanwhile, the field crew fluctuates with the season – ranging from 80 to 100 workers at a typical point in the year, and climbing to as many as 150 at peak. As much as possible, Steve says they want to retain all those team members, as their collective engagement and expertise plays such a vital role in the company’s success. In general, Steve says the vision for Scaffex is one of continued, deliberate growth – both in the depth of their team and the complexity of the work they take on. Steve wants to add engineers, expand their commercial and industrial portfolios, and pursue more projects in sectors like heritage building restoration, new school construction, pool work, and large-scale renovations. Their mission is to be first call – and the only call – for jobs that others can’t handle. “The more complicated the job, the more jobs that others cannot do – we can do those in-house,” Steve says. “When those complicated jobs come up, they know who to call. They have one call to make, and it’s to us. We have all the infrastructure to do it, we have the people that can do it, and we have the experience to do it.” JULY 2026
