He doesn’t feel the need to get any bigger – at 60 years old he’s reached a point in his career where he is comfortable about what he and his team have built. The company’s current size is a deliberate choice, driven by his desire to remain personally involved in every build and maintain their premium standard of quality. “I purposely stayed this size because I can actually get the result I want,” he says. “I wouldn’t be as happy having two or three supers running multiple homes. It just wouldn’t be as rewarding.” What does drive Mike, he says, is the moment a client walks through a finished home and sees their dream realized. That satisfaction – the look on a homeowner’s face when everything has come together exactly as they imagined – is what keeps him motivated. He believes the same goes for everyone works with, so his goal is also to keep everyone together. “I just want to be big enough to keep everybody busy,” he says. “I want to make sure the team stays together and everybody loves what they do every day. As long as that’s true, we’re at the right size.”
