The Construction Source

That friendship opened a door. As SunCo Sunspaces expanded, the team recognized a need for a skilled renovator who could keep crew members working through Manitoba’s challenging winter months, when sunroom installation becomes far more difficult. In 2007, Roger came on board as that crew member, building sunrooms in the summer and leading interior renovation work in the winter. The goal was to keep the company operating year-round so they wouldn’t have to hire fresh crews every spring and forfeit all the time and energy they had invested in training the previous crews. The company quickly achieved that goal, and then soon after their sunroom business alone grew robust enough to sustain full-year employment without relying on residential renovation work as a supplement. Roger’s path to ownership came through a set of circumstances that tested the company’s resilience. When one of the original founding partners took extended sick leave, Roger stepped into his role as lead salesperson and excelled. When that partner returned and reclaimed his position, Roger was offered the opportunity to open his own dealership, selling the SunCo Sunspaces product under his own brand. He founded Backyard Paradise and ran it as an independent contracting entity for roughly twoand-a-half years. Roger was then invited back into the SunCo fold – this time as a partner. Backyard Paradise and SunCo Sunspaces were consolidated into a single entity, and the combined company became what it is today. These days, Backyard Paradise by SunCo operates JULYE 2026
