THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA The firm’s connection to nature is what makes certain projects especially rewarding for Nathan and his team. Nathan describes their ideal conditions in painterly terms. “Whenever we’ve got rocks or trees or lakes – especially views and natural light – those are all the paints on the easel that make it really easy for us to do good work.” BLDG Workshop also takes pride in truly listening to their clients and ensuring their voices and ideas are heard and implemented throughout that process. Nathan believes that client-centric approach is another big part of what sets the firm apart and earns them repeat business and referrals. “Of course we want to make great work,” he says, “but in the end, it’s the client’s house. The client is the one that’s going to live there. So we want to do really great work, but that’s a process of listening to our clients and making sure that the things they feel about this property are the things we ultimately design.” Collaboration is the word Nathan returns to again and again – with clients, with builders, and within his own team. Internally, he describes a culture where people are given room to live their lives and do their best work. “I try to be pretty chill with my people,” he says. “I’m still leading and guiding the design, but our people are really smart, so they kind of pick up on where I’m trying to lead it
