JANUARY 2026 “It’s impossible to do that kind of volume if you have a turbulent staff with a lot of turnover,” Luc explains. “Staff retention is so important. We have a team that has been able to spend a decadeand-a-half learning the ins and outs and the dos and don’ts. That experience gives us the ability to simultaneously execute a lot of work successfully. That would be impossible if we didn’t have individuals that have been here for many years. Without those people, we’d be starting from scratch too often.” Additionally, because of Lumar’s strong corporate culture and reputation within the industry, when they do need to bring on new people, Mario says it’s not a challenge to attract the right talent. “We typically don’t have an issue hiring,” he says. “A lot of people want to come and work at LuMar. When we need guys and we open the doors, a lot of people show up. That helps a lot. We’re able to hire quickly when we need to.” Moving forward, LuMar Electric intends to continue growing, partly in pursuit of Mario and Luc’s founding vision, but more importantly so they can continue giving their employees new opportunities and pathways to professional advancement. As part of the company’s vision for growth, they are looking at expanding their geographic reach. They already expanded to Charlottetown about a year-and-a-half ago, and they now have about 10 employees in a satellite office there. They are now looking at other cities to open offices in. They are also looking at expanding their in-house capabilities and opening up new divisions so they can take on larger projects. Ultimately, Luc says, “we want to grow as much as it’s possible to grow.” “There’s only so much work out there, and we know we can’t control that, but there are certain things we can control,” he explains. “We can make sure that we have the people and the systems and the processes in place to make sure that we’re capable of absorbing and executing the work that is available. That’s what we’re always working towards, and we feel like there’s always room to get better.” “We want to keep growing because that’s how we give opportunity to our guys and girls,” Mario concludes. “For now, we don’t really feel like we have a ceiling. We’re shooting for the stars and we’ll see where we land.”
