JANUARY 2026 “I would say that 90-plus per cent of what sets us apart is having we appoint the right people in the right seats. We make sure they are in roles that naturally serve their characteristics as people. We’re not trying to force an elephant to climb a tree when we have a monkey on the roster. That’s a huge part of why we’ve been able to achieve everything we’ve achieved.” As a result of all those points of difference, LuMar Electric has been able to build long-lasting relationships with all their managers, including customers and employees. When it comes to customers, for example, Mario says some go back to “day one.” “We’ve been working with some clients for 15 years,” he says. “We’ve grown with them. We helped them grow, they helped us grow, and we’ve stuck together.” On the employee side, the company enjoys similar retention. Again, Mario says they have a few team members who have been there for almost 15 years. They have others that just passed the 10year mark. Some people started with the company in the field with no experience, and now they’re in the office managing and estimating. Mario credits that loyalty to the company’s strong culture: “We’re a career-driven company,” he explains. “That means we really take care of our employees, we treat them very fairly, we create great opportunities for them through growth. We always try to promote within the company. We don’t like to fill management or senior positions from outside – we like to give those opportunities to our people in-house. I think that goes a long way.” “We have a great group of guys,” he adds. “We do a lot of company get-togethers, events, et cetera. We brought the guys to Montreal for an NHL game last year. We’ve created some really strong bonds, and I think that translates to the work that we do. I think that taking care of our team, in the end, helps us take care of our clients.”
