builds and renovations to waste water facilities, administration buildings, recreational facilities, and City Hall – further illustrate the breadth of RBW’s capabilities. What ties this diverse portfolio together is RBW Consulting’s appetite for complexity. “One of the things that drives us here is innovation and being able to solve problems and constructability puzzles for owners,” Darren explains. That philosophy is currently on display in a challenging design-build project involving the installation of an elevator within an existing two-storey building for a non-profit organization. Retrofitting an elevator into an older structure required cutting through the concrete and metal deck of the second floor, reinforcing existing structural steel, and carefully coordinating trades – all without breaking through the roof or exceeding the building’s tight spatial constraints, and all while the non-profit organization continued to remain open and serving the public. After approaching approximately nine elevator providers, RBW Consulting ultimately selected Uppercut Elevators, an Alberta-based company, for their ability to deliver a limited-use, limitedapplication (LULA) elevator that fit the project perfectly. “My experience with them so far has been really good,” Darren notes, adding that he has no hesitation endorsing their work. RBW Consulting’s ability to take on such projects is closely tied to their in-house engineering expertise.
