The Construction Source

Black Diamond Homes is the result of a decadelong journey that began not with a business plan or outside investment, but with a single framing crew and a builder willing to learn every aspect of the craft from the ground up. Founded by Marcus Klassen, the Penticton-based general contracting firm has evolved into a family-operated company focused on high-end custom homes, energyefficient construction, and a more transparent, respectful relationship between builder and client. Marcus started Black Diamond Homes in 2015 in Manitoba as a one-man framing operation. For the first year, he built four houses entirely on his own, gaining firsthand experience in the physical demands, sequencing, and precision required to frame a home properly. As the business grew, so did his ambitions. Over the next five years, Black Diamond Homes expanded into a full framing crew, operating as a subcontractor while steadily working toward the long-term goal of becoming a general contractor. “That was always the plan,” Marcus recalls. “We wanted to understand the entire building process before taking on full responsibility for a full home project.” That measured approach shaped the company’s philosophy. Before making the leap into general contracting, Marcus focused on building capital, strengthening systems, and taking on selective renovation and new-build projects. At the same time, he and his family were preparing for an even bigger transition: relocating from Winnipeg to British Columbia. The move to the Okanagan Valley had been a long-held goal.
