The building program and key planning principles may remain relatively consistent, which helps create efficiencies for our clients, but the design ultimately needs to respond to the specific opportunities and constraints of each site.” In Goderich, the site’s unique characteristics presented several opportunities. The generous property allowed the building to accommodate surface parking and an interior courtyard, while the upper levels offered views toward Lake Huron—an opportunity Brandon and his team incorporated directly into the design. “We oriented the building and strategically located amenity spaces to take advantage of those views and strengthen the connection between the residents and their surroundings,” he says. The success of the Goderich project helped establish a strong foundation for Lawrence Architects’ continued growth in the long-term care sector. Since then, the firm’s portfolio has expanded to include several significant projects across Ontario, ranging from mid-rise facilities to larger urban developments.
