MBHE Inc. is a leading design-build firm in Ottawa specializing in major renovations and adaptive home solutions. Matthieu Bazinet, the founder and owner of the company, is committed to creating custom homes and coach houses that prioritize innovation, accessibility, and sustainability, and he started MBHE in 2020 with the goal of setting new standards in the housing industry. In pursuit of that goal, the company has delivered a number of innovative and acclaimed projects in the years since, including the first ever net-zero coach house in Canada. “We are committed to reshaping the future of housing in Canada,” Matthieu says. “Our goal is to create homes that not only adhere to the highest environmental standards but also adapt to the diverse and changing needs of modern families. By integrating sustainable technologies and innovative design, we aim to build a better future for our planet and our clients.” Matthieu has personally been around the construction industry almost all his life – his dad was a builder, and the first time he ever walked on a job site he was either eight or nine years old. He didn’t initially follow in his father’s footsteps, however. He studied politics, economics, and administration in university, then after school spent about 20 years teaching kids with special needs. Then the “housing market went crazy” and he felt a call to action. “As a father of four, I looked at the housing market and realized how unattainable it was going to be for my kids,” he recalls. “I decided to launch MBHE to help resolve that housing crisis.” To that end, MBHE focuses on transforming single-family homes into multi-unit properties, APRIL 2026
