Bateman Development is an Ottawa-based builder and developer of custom homes and infill projects. Over more than 40 years, they have delivered projects that continue to stand out in Ottawa’s architectural landscape. In that time, they have built lasting relationships with leading architects, consultants, and trades across the region, earning a reputation for quality and attention to detail. “We specialize in the construction of unique and exclusive properties,” says Allan Bateman, director. “We take pride in delivering outstanding quality and design.” Allan has been working in construction for almost all his life. He was raised on a farm in Southwestern Ontario, where his family built drive sheds, corn cribs, and other farm buildings. Back in 1963, his family also built a service centre on the 401 when the highway opened between Windsor and Toronto. In 1970, the family built a 43-unit motel on the property across the highway from the service centre, giving Allan experience with a variety of projects at a young age. From 1969 to 1974, Allan attended Western University and returned each summer to work in the building business. After his third year in university, he started his own company doing renovations and additions. He later earned an MBA from York University in 1975. After graduation, he returned to construction and moved to Ottawa in 1981 to expand the business. That’s when he began building infill projects, and he has continued ever since. Over the years, Bateman Development has evolved from those early renovation days. These days, rather than taking on work for outside APRIL 2026
