APRIL 2026 project involved overcoming a series of logistical challenges. Firstly, the team at Prime movers they had to load-walk every unit in through a restricted opening. They then had to jack and roll each air handling unit 200-to-300 feet across the building – traversing over multiple curbs, housekeeping pads, et cetera – in order to get to the engineering lifting station. At the station, we stacked the AHU sections before the final placement on the housekeeping pad. “We had two lifting stations set up strategically – one about two-thirds down the building, another near the opening where the units were being moved through,” Tye explains. “This was to avoid jack and rolling a 30,000-pound AHU which was now almost scraping the ceiling the entire length of the building. This kept the move as efficient as possible.” Projects like this are a great example of the type of work that makes Prime Movers a rewarding place to be. The team regularly takes on complex and unconventional moves, offering the opportunity to work on unique and interesting projects that you don’t see every day. For example, our team recently completed the removal of a 100,000-pound dump truck box from a manufacturing facility in Central Alberta, utilizing our RS80/100 forklift. The project presented unique challenges in terms of size, weight, and maneuverability, but with proper planning and execution, the move was completed safely and efficiently. As Tye notes, “we made a challenging move look easy.” According to Spencer, clients with projects of that calibre and complexity are typically attracted to Prime Movers because of their diverse array of services. “We’re a one-stop-shop,” he says. “There are not a lot of things we don’t do in house. So, we add a lot of value on bigger projects where they need to do a lot more than just move an item. “Clients typically want to deal with one point of contact,” he says. “It becomes frustrating for them when they’re trying to organize various trade and scheduling logistics, especially when it comes to truck driving, booking cranes, road closure permitting. A lot of logistical factors come into play with these projects. We make those headaches disappear:” Clients also appreciate working directly with the owners. Spencer and Dan are both very handson, as is Tye in Leduc. “We estimate, we project manage, we’re very involved with the business,” Spencer says. “So clients are typically dealing with one of the leaders of the company and getting an extra level of care and attention. It’s our name on the side of the trucks and we take great pride in that. We have a long-term vision for the business and we know we’re only going to get there by building great relationships and doing well-respected work.” It also helps that all the leaders at Prime Movers love what they do – especially the more complicated jobs. “The work is quite satisfying,” Spencer says. “We get to think outside the box and problem solve. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that, which is why we love this line of work.”
