Prime Movers is a leading provider of industrial rigging and moving services. From their headquarters in Calgary and their branch in Leduc, they service all of Western Canada. In all markets, they offer a diverse and specialized suite of moving services catering to a wide range of industries. They excel in complex, large-scale projects, and moves that require a high degree of management, skill and precision. They plan to add more services to their offering, and become a multidisciplinary group of companies capable of taking care of all their clients’ industrial services needs. “Our long-term vision is to be a multidiscipline, multi-trade conglomerate,” says Spencer Hewlett, co-founder and general manager. “We’re looking to tackle larger projects, offering value through every phase while taking care of the complicated details so our clients don’t have to.” Spencer founded Prime Movers with his partner Daniel Reed. Both had begun their careers at a Calgary-based industrial moving and rigging company, where they started as general labourers and worked their way up the ranks. After that company was purchased by a large corporation, Spencer stepped away from the industry to pursue more education. At MacEwan University, Spencer completed a business-management diploma while also attending trade school at NAIT, earning his journeyman mobile crane ticket and his Blue and Red Seals. Armed with that skillset, he teamed up with Dan and formed Prime Movers. At their previous company, they had seen firsthand how a smaller, locally-based company operated. After it was acquired, they got to see the inner workings of a larger corporation. With their own venture, their goal was to fuse the best qualities of each, APRIL 2026
