says. “We adjusted our design approach based on sketches and thoughts that they had.” RAW Design remained closely involved in that project throughout its entire lifecycle, from design through to material selection through to construction and delivery. At every stage, Jonathan says they worked closely with the client to solve problems and safeguard their vision. At some stages, that meant doing things they had never done before. For instance, they had never dealt with so many arches before so they had to research the best materials to achieve that cut shape. Ultimately, they settled on quarried limestone, which they were able to source from a quarry in Ontario through the Arriscraft brand. The result was a “very striking look.” “There are more than a dozen arches at the front of this Bathurst street façade,” Jonathan explains, “and it’s striking because usually everything around the area is a bit more rectilinear, whereas we have all these organic curves.” “From those limestone arches to the arched windows, we figured out the details for everything to be buildable and for everything to work as a very clean system,” he adds. “I think that’s the result of the client and us collaborating – of them figuring out and letting us know what they wanted, and us working together and finding out how to draw it and how to build it.” The finished product achieved occupancy earlier this year, and Jonathan is happy to report that “everyone is happy with the outcome,” including the client. “We’re proud of the result, and think it aligns with what the client envisioned,” he says.
