Construction began last summer and is expected to wrap up by October. “It’s a much-needed project, and something that I’m very proud of,” Shawn says. Stratford Contracting handles commercial projects ranging in value from $50,000 to $10 million. For context, the hotel conversion currently underway is a multimillion dollar project, and Shawn is already exploring a $40 million project in the early stages of planning. Yet, he emphasizes that the principles of project management remain consistent regardless of scale. “Whether it’s a $1 million or $30 million project, execution is still the same. Just a bigger schedule, typically a longer timeframe, and a bigger budget – but the methods aren’t any different,” he notes. Clients rarely need to be sought out. The company’s reputation is their primary form of advertising. “People come to us based on reputation,” Shawn explains. “Our sponsorship is our visibility in the community, giving back, and the logos on our trucks and hockey jerseys. We’ve never run ads.” Maintaining strong relationships relies on clear, effective, and timely communication. “People want to be heard,” he says. “They’ll accept no for an answer as long as you give it. But they don’t want to be ignored or put off. You have to be willing to communicate and deliver on your answer.” The company’s approach to human relationships extends beyond clients.
