The Construction Source

THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA then “took a big toll on it” as a result of a freezethaw winter and heavy seasonal use. When Tom next conducted his own personal inspection in 2022, he noticed accelerated deterioration. Tulloch, the engineering firm, was brought in to conduct a more professional inspection, and they decided that the bridge had to be closed to vehicular passage and only foot traffic. That decision came down in July. With snowmobile season coming up again shortly, Seguin Township was motivated to fix the problem quickly. Tulloch recommended Algonquin Bridge, a company that prefabricates bridges, as they had recently finished a job together. Algonquin came out and reviewed the site, and in collaboration with Tulloch they quickly devised a solution and got moving. While Algonquin was building the bridge in their shop, Tulloch was able to work on the contract drawings and documents at the same time. Once the bridge was ready for assembly, Seguin Township turned to local contractor Hawkins Ltd. Again, Hawkins was able to move quickly and efficiently on site and get the bridge erected. “It was a little bit of a nail-biter situation, but we got it open before Christmas and open to snowmobile traffic for January,” Tom reports. “It was a very close call, but we were able to get it done.” Tom credits that remarkable turnaround to the talent and dedication of each of their project partners, starting with their engineering partners at Tulloch. He commends them for their integrity,
