The Construction Source

Seguin Township, located in Ontario’s picturesque District of Parry Sound, is a vibrant and thriving community experiencing significant growth. Recent census data places the municipality among the fastest-growing small municipalities in Canada, with many new residents drawn by the area’s lakes, trails, and four-season recreation. That growth, along with climate-related stressors, has placed fresh demands on local infrastructure – particularly roads and bridges that serve residents, as well as the thriving trail network popular with snowmobilers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Recently, in response to that demands, Seguin Township embarked on a series of three bridge projects along the same trail. Under the leadership of Tom MacLeod, Director of Public Works, and in collaboration with their strategic partners, the township turned each of those projects around within an 18 month window. Tom has personally been working with Seguin Township since 2017, initially as operations coordinator before earning the director role in 2022. Prior to that, he worked for several years for the nearby town of Wasaga Beach in the engineering department – “so I just thoroughly love the area up here,” he says. “It’s great. It’s one of the best parts of Ontario, if not one of the best parts of Canada. I’ve been here working in the area for almost a decade, and it’s just been a great place to live, work, and play – as cliché as that terminology is, it’s been true.” In his time with Seguin, Tom has seen a tremendous amount of growth. Currently, the township is the fifth fastest-growing municipality of its size in Ontario. Tom credits that partly to SEPTEMBER 2025
