A&B Mechanical Ltd. is a longstanding Winnipegbased provider of heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and indoor air quality products and services. Since forming in 1989 as a one-manoperation, they have grown to a team of morethan-30 highly trained and qualified employees working out of a 5,000-square-foot fully-equipped fabrication shop. Over the years, they have also grown their reputation – today, they are recognized as an industry leader in their field, known for their longstanding client relationships and their high standard of services, innovative solutions and customer support. Initially, the company was founded by Bruce McWhirter, an experienced plumber looking to move on from his position at another plumbing company and form his own enterprise. From the very beginning, he thought the name should reflect more than just a plumbing shop, so he called the business A&B Mechanical – the two initials came from his two daughters, Ainsley and Brittany, and the title ‘Mechanical’ was chosen to be more encompassing. The early years of sole proprietorship were challenging, but through hard work and dedication – and by listening to the needs of his customers and delivering the service they expected – Bruce was able to persevere and build something well-respected and ultimately multi-generational. Bruce’s son, Kallem, and nephew Ryan McWhirter, both grew up around the business and rose through the ranks over time. Along with a third partner, Andrew Besant, they officially purchased the company last year, with a vision to take it to the next level. “My father was happy where he was,” Kallem explains. “But Ryan, Andrew and I want to grow.
