The Construction Source

With that infrastructure now in place, the RM’s goal is to fill all these upcoming developments with residents and businesses. To that end, they are working with realtors to get the bring people in and broadcast everything that the RM has to offer. When it comes to businesses, for example, Wes says “we don’t have a lot of the extra fees that municipalities normally carry, and we don’t charge business tax.” Meanwhile, when it comes to attracting residents, Wes touts the RM’s proximity to other cities in Winnipeg. He calls Rosenort, which is a 25-to30 minute drive away, a “bedroom community” to Winnipeg. It’s also not far from Winkler and Steinbach, making it in the middle of three important cities. It’s also still a small community, with that “small town feeling” and the regular small town advantages. “It’s safe, it’s clean, you have friendly neighbours,” Wes says. “It’s just a great place to be – all while being a short distance away from the biggest city in Manitoba.” Moving forward, the RM’s objective is definitely growth, and they believe they have lots of room for that growth. For now, their focus is on filling newly created residential and industrial capacity and continuing to broaden their economic base. Again, the pitch for the RM is straightforward – reasonably priced lots, fewer add-on municipal fees, no business tax, and a location that offers both short commutes and a close-knit community. Additionally, the RM is also exploring ways to support assisted living and seniors housing, recognizing the desire of long-time residents to remain near their family and farms as they age. Scott says they have been in discussion with several groups who are interested in meeting that demand, and they hope to find ways to bring those projects to fruition. Ultimately, with the infrastructure capacity in place – particularly on the wastewater side – the Rural Municipality of Morris expects to accommodate years of additional growth. According to Wes and Scott, that growth will be guided by the same community-first ethos that has guided the RM’s growth to date. OCTOBER 2025
