The Rural Municipality of Morris is prosperous and growing agricultural, commercial and industrial community located approximately 50 kilometres from Winnipeg. In recent years, the rural municipality (RM) has been experiencing steady, intentional growth made possible by long-term planning and by the essential appeal of the community. Chief Administrative Officer Wes Unrau, who came to the RM in 2023, describes a place where “there is something new happening every day,” with an administration that “sees something that needs doing, and they get it done.” Reeve Scott Siemens, meanwhile, is a lifelong resident, and he says the area blends small-town familiarity with practical advantages, such as proximity to Winnipeg, access to other regional centers, and easy connections to the U.S. border. The result is a setting that supports both family life and business activity – a setting worth investing in, and that investment is happening now in the form of infrastructure upgrades and upgrades to residential and industrial capacity. Much of the RM’s recent momentum traces back to groundwork laid by previous councils and administrators. When Wes first joined, for example, the RM had just finished phase one of a 226-lot residential development in Rosenort. There was also an ongoing industrial park expansion in Rosenort, as well as a 21-lot residential expansion in Lowe Farm. Scott credits that recent activity to the forward-thinking and long-term vision of prior councils, administrators, and a dedicated staff that has helped see the vision to completion. “They have worked hard to lay the groundwork for these developments,” he says. “The land this development is on was purchased quite a few OCTOBER 2025
