The Construction Source

Since forming in 2009, Ironclad Earthworks has been steadily building a reputation across Alberta and British Columbia for taking on projects that others in the industry shy away from. Based in Calgary, the company specializes in complex earthworks, dam, and infrastructure projects that demand precision, experience, and grit. From emergency river stabilization to the construction of the largest debris dam in North America, Ironclad has developed a name synonymous with capability, integrity, and fearlessness. For Clint Herman – who co-founded the company with his brother Stephen – Ironclad’s origins were rooted as much in principle as in ambition. “One of our large motivators for starting Ironclad was that we were tired of working at companies where people were second,” Clint recalls. “Everywhere we looked, people were treated like numbers. Machines were valued more than the people running them. Nobody was focused on building a team.” That belief in people became the cornerstone of Ironclad Earthworks. What began as a small operation has grown into a respected force across Central and Southern Alberta, occasionally extending into British Columbia when the right opportunity arises. Today, the company’s projects range from $500,000 earthmoving jobs – those with 5,000 cubic meters or more – to major undertakings like the Cougar Creek Dam, a $28 million feat that stands as the largest debris dam in North America. Ironclad’s growth has been guided by the strength of their team. The company maintains a core group of 20-to-25 employees, including key managers and field staff who serve as the backbone of NOVEMBER 2025
