This path started with a post-secondary education in Mining Engineering at Queen’s University, a five-year stint in Canada’s oil sands, followed by a house renovation project that sparked a new passion and sent him on the trajectory he’s still on today. Both Brett and Luke share an instinct for craftsmanship and client service that drives their partnership today. Together, they’ve built a company focused on custom renovations, additions, and freestanding builds across Ottawa and the surrounding region – typically within an hour’s radius, though they’re known to travel further for special projects. The company’s work ranges in scale and complexity, from master bathroom renovations, fire place surrounds, basements, to larger projects like full floor renovations and detached garages and extensive additions. Yet regardless of project size, Brett and Luke’s approach remains the same: clear communication, detailed planning, and a commitment to finishing what they start – with quality, transparency, and respect for the client’s home. When it comes to finding clients, Acalla’s success has largely been organic, driven by word of mouth and referrals from satisfied homeowners. “Most of our projects come through people talking to people,” Brett says. “We post updates on Facebook, Instagram or in local community groups, but it’s really the client relationships and referrals that keep us busy.” NOVEMBER 2025
