and started DeNoble Homes with his wife, Kim. Very quickly, his high standards earned him a reputation as “Whitby’s Hometown Builder.” In the years since, DeNoble Homes has delivered a long list of homes, many on their own lots in their own communities, but also some custom homes for clients on lots they purchased themselves. Over time, the company’s projects have ranged greatly in size and value – they’ve built everything from 1,500-square-foot townhouses up to 8,000-square-foot estate homes – but Steve’s approach has always been consistent. “Our vision has always been to build quality homes,” he says. “No matter what the size of the home is, we put everything we have into it. Not a day goes by where I’m not in each and every home that is under construction, making tweaks and pushing the trades to do better. That’s our modus operandi.” Speaking of trades, Steve says that the majority of DeNoble Homes’ trade partners have been working with the company for 20-to-30 years, and many of them have become personal friends. He says that consistency and loyalty comes with a lot advantages. Most importantly, Steve says, “they know what we expect, and they just do it.” “They understand our standards,” he elaborates. “They know how strict we are about quality. They know if something’s not right, I’m going to notice and they’re going to have to do it again – so they make sure they get it right the first time.” Once DeNoble Homes finds a good subcontractor, Steve says they tend to hold on to them all the way up until retirement.
