The Construction Source

how their spaces function now that remote work and multigenerational living have become more common. These are the kinds of projects that invite creative problem-solving and close collaboration—two things Sylvan Construction is known for. Sylvan Construction approaches each and every job with a collaborative mindset. Brian says he doesn’t just show up to build—he becomes a gobetween for the homeowner, architect, engineer, and any suppliers involved. “Designs can look great on paper,” he says, “but if they don’t meet a client’s vision or practical needs, they end up causing headaches. I step in early to make sure everyone’s talking the same language.” That starts with a conversation. He asks clients to share reference images—interiors they admire, exteriors that feel like home—and walks them through completed projects to help ground their ideas in budget and scale. It’s a simple but highly effective way to align expectations and avoid surprises down the line. One renovation from last year shows just how far that commitment to alignment can go. In a 1970s home with a dated kitchen and cramped layout, Brian’s team found a creative solution to open up the space. Working alongside a structural engineer and the homeowner’s kitchen supplier, they relocated a wall and rerouted a stairwell that previously broke up the main floor. The new staircase is hidden behind custom cabinetry that blends seamlessly into the kitchen’s design— turning what was once a problem area into a showpiece. “When they hosted a Christmas party dinner, guests couldn’t believe the transformation,” Brian says. “That blend of design and practicality—wow factor without gimmicks— is what we aim for.” MAY 2025
