THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA Over the course of Woodbecker’s history, they have been able to utilize the team’s strengths to earn a consistent stream of repeat work, with 80 per cent of the company’s projects coming from repeat clients across a range of industries and the remainder from referrals and references. Woodbecker incites loyalty among their team members; James explains that “construction is a transient business and people will move on,” but he takes pride in “keeping a core group of individuals together.” He also pushes to bring on co-op students and high school students, to train and help pave their experience in the trades of construction. Some of those students have stuck around and become “vital parts” of the company. “We took on one kid when he was 16 years old, and now 14 years later and he’s running the shop,” he says. “He’s had the opportunity to grow up with the company. That’s something we’re very proud of. We love providing that opportunity for the next generation and we will continue doing that.”
