The Construction Source

MARCH 2025 includes parking spaces for up to 25 staff and accommodations for a drop-off zone for up to 20 vehicles. The interior includes an activities area in a large open concept room subdivided into smaller zones to accommodate small group and/ or individual activity. The windows within vary in size and height, as they were designed to enhance the interior environment by allowing in natural daylight. According to Dave, MCM’s goal on that project was to “create a flow of space where form, texture, and colour invite children to play, interact, and imagine.” He believes they accomplished that goal, and that the finished design facilitates growth in different areas of development, including physical growth, social skills, emotional growth, verbal skills, cognitive ability and creativity. Critically, Dave also believes that project has made a very positive impact on the community: “Manitoba – and I think probably Canada, in general – has a chronic shortage of childcare spaces,” he explains. “Fortunately, those clients were so motivated and so relatively selfless to put the time and effort into developing a space like that for their community. We were proud to be involved.” Moving forward, MCM Architects’ goal is to continue doing projects they can take pride in. “We’re really proud of the work we’ve done in the province and in our community, and we want to keep that up,” Dave says. “We want to contribute to our community. We want to be a part of schools, rec centres, daycares – buildings that contribute to the community’s wellbeing. Maybe those buildings won’t be on the front page of a magazine, but they will make a difference in people’s lives. That’s ultimately the most important thing for us.”
