The Construction Source

You could call it a double double. That seems to be the story of Northstar Access, one of Canada’s leading providers of scaffolding, shoring, mechanized access and other temporary access solutions. It certainly summarizes the company’s recent and projected growth. Having grown to more than 400 staff today, up from 200 just two years ago, the proudly Canadian company expects it will double again by 2028. Why the industry-leading growth, especially at a time when Canadian business and the economy seem so volatile? “Our success comes down to our culture and people,” says Paul Zvonar, President and CEO. “That’s what drives our performance and the general draw we’re seeing with new clients and recruits coming to us. It’s also fueled our marketing, which is based on sharing real stories – and it’s working.” With customers in at least five provinces and an ‘always-on’ recruitment drive, Northstar Access has set a goal of servicing every meaningful population centre in Canada – something it intends to achieve by doubling down on its core values, and Canadian DNA. “It’s a great time to be building, to embrace our problem-solving and entrepreneurial culture, and to celebrate our Canadianess,” says Doug Thomas, Toronto’s General Manager at Northstar Access. “As we grow our products, services, and presence across the country, and the industry sees more of us, we’ve noticed that we’re having to introduce ourselves less and less over time.” Canadian to the core, Northstar Access’ roots go back to Etobicoke, Ontario. In 2012, Jonathan McCain, son of Michael McCain, acquired Russ Dilworth Scaffold, a scaffold rental shop in MARCH 2025
