Since founding in 2008, bsq Landscape Architects has been transforming outdoor spaces across the Greater Toronto Area with an approach that blends design expertise, project management, and construction consultation. Co-founded by university classmates Robert Boltman and Alex Bartlet, bsq has built a reputation for thoughtful landscape design that balances creativity, functionality, and environmental considerations. At the core of bsq Landscape Architects’ success is their ability to tackle projects that are both creative and practical. “We pride ourselves on being good listeners,” says Robert. “It’s not just about giving clients what they ask for, but helping them see what’s possible—while also ensuring we stay within budget.” Those budgets, Robert adds, typically start at around $60,000 – “but we also work on high-end projects that exceed a million dollars.” bsq handles a variety of projects, from smaller-scale renovations to larger, more complex endeavors. These might include custom patios, new decks, and elaborate outdoor living spaces with pools, spas, and outdoor kitchens. Additionally, BSQ takes on commercial projects, including condo landscaping, terraces, and public space design. Whether designing a rooftop garden or a grand backyard oasis, each project is approached with meticulous attention to detail. “We want our outdoor spaces to feel like extensions of the home,” Robert explains, emphasizing that a landscape should both look beautiful and be a place people actually want to use. Unlike firms that focus solely on design, bsq takes an integrated approach. “We’re not just drawing plans and handing them off—we stay involved to make sure the project is executed properly,” Robert explains.
