While Studio One does not actively seek out awards, their work has been recognized by industry bodies. The Customs House project in Victoria received an Award of Excellence in Renovation from the Capital Regional UDI, and the City of Vancouver Heritage Award acknowledged their façade restoration of a historic hotel. They have also been recognized with the IDIBC Award of Excellence in Interior Design. These accolades highlight their commitment to design excellence, even as their primary focus remains on serving clients and creating spaces that enhance communities. One of the firm’s standout recent projects is the AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel, a boutique hotel in downtown Vancouver that opened in October 2023. This 13-storey, 104-room hotel was built on a challenging 50-foot infill site, requiring innovative solutions to accommodate two restaurants—one on the rooftop and another on the ground floor— along with complex servicing requirements. “‘Both frontages need to be elegant, welcoming, and clean,” notes Shoghig. “I think that was a challenge that turned out really well.” With its rich exterior cladding and a focus on timeless yet elegant design, the AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel has quickly gained recognition as a successful and architecturally distinctive hotel. Beyond commercial and institutional work, the firm has undertaken numerous residential and mixed-use developments, from highrise condominiums to thoughtfully designed townhomes. Their approach to residential projects prioritizes livability, sustainability, and integration with the surrounding community. “We take a practical, hands-on approach,” says Jim. “It’s about providing thoughtful, unique, and creative designs while keeping functionality in mind.” MARCH 2025
