Hamish Taylor, an award-winning CEO. “He was a very interesting guy,” Jake says. “He talked a lot about how when you’re thinking about your company, you tend to generate your values around what you do well – but that’s not the best way to do it. You need to look at your values and the way that you build your business from a customer-centric viewpoint – meaning that you shouldn’t start with you; you should start with your customer.” “What does your customer like? What would your customer appreciate? And how can you provide that? Those are the questions you should be asking,” Jake elaborates. “And that’s the approach we’ve taken. We’ve started from the customer and worked outwards. That’s helped to motivate us and incentive us to develop a project management toolset and a way of interacting with customers that really benefits them.” Moving forward, Jake says the goal for Atlas Automation is to continue to refine that toolset and to continue to grow. He definitely believes the opportunity is there, as the need for energy management and building automation is “only becoming more prevalent.” “I think there are going to be a lot of incentives and mandates coming from the government,” he predicts. “Building automation is a growing industry, and I think it’s going to continue growing in the future.” As the industry grows, Atlas Automation intends to grow with it. As part of that growth, they aim to add to their staff, increase their revenue, and continue expanding geographically – not just to other provinces in Canada, but also potentially to other countries. For example, Jake says Greenland has a “really similar landscape and construction atmosphere to Nunavut,” and he believes Atlas Automation could be just as successful working there. He believes that could happen within the next five years. “I really think the sky’s the limit,” he says. “We’ve been able to handle growth at a rate of 50 to 100 per cent for several years. I think we’ll be able to maintain that for the foreseeable future.” JUNE 2025
