agricultural customers that we were working for, who were doing grain dryers and grain handling systems. I reached out to them, and within a few months I started making some sales.” In 2019, Jake officially formed Atlas Automation. He started in his garage, where he would build PLC control panels and various other automation tools, mostly for agricultural clients, but also for some clients in other sectors, including some local distilleries. Very quickly, that business took off. “We did a small amount the first year, and then double the next year,” Jake says. “Then through some some business associates that I had, I was reached out to by a company that was doing some work in Nunavut, and they said that there was a need for some controls contractors out there.” From there, Jake did some research into all the major controls contracting suppliers, and he discovered there was one brand – Honeywell Building Control – that had a “really good product line,” but wasn’t strongly represented in the north. Nor were they strongly represented in Edmonton, for that matter. Atlas Automation reached out to the suppliers selling their product line and became a certified Honeywell Building Control Specialist (BCS) in 2021. As a Honeywell BCS, Atlas Automation is able to supply, install, and support a wide range of Honeywell Building Control Products, including large commercial building applications. Since forming that partnership, Jake says their company has been able to grow at an even faster pace – he estimates they have grown between 50 and 100 per cent every year since. “So it’s been a pretty steady and steep incline,” JUNE 2025
