Atlas Automation is a fast-growing and industryleading company that designs, builds, implements, and maintains building control systems. From their home base in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, they work all across the country – even in remote locations, including Nunavut and the Northwest Territories – and they take on a wide variety of projects, always with the fundamental objective of bringing quality to their clients. “Whether we are servicing existing systems, maintaining, or installing new; our focus is on safe production, efficiency, and effectiveness,” says Jake Fluker, founder and managing director. Jake personally comes from a deep background in the electrical contracting industry. He first started working in the trade in high school, when he was part of the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). Right out of school, he started working for a local electrical contracting company called Quality Electric, which he eventually became part owner of. In his time there, that company has grown considerably – they started out doing small maintenance work, but grew into doing commercial projects for some of the pre-eminent general contractors in and around Edmonton. While helping Quality Electric grow, Jake developed a side interest in automation. That interest started with a company affiliated with Quality Electric, who had a PLC line and some demo products. That company gave Jake some software and hardware, “and I went home and sat in my basement for months, learning how to program,” he recalls. “I got the point where I was able to pull some full programs together,” he says. “I saw some applications for those programs with some of the JUNE 2025
