From the very start of the company, building a good corporate culture has been a major focus for Brook and Vanessa. Those efforts have been formed by their personal experience: “I have a history out in Alberta working in the oil field, and I think my longest stint out in the field was three months,” Brook says. “That was very hard on my wife and I and our relationship at the time. So, we always told each other if we’re going to do this, we’re going to give our employees a lifestyle that fits with a significant other and allows them to grow a family and have some joy in their life. So, we committed to working five days a week.” Brook says that honouring that commitment has been wholly positive for the company, with virtually no downsides – not even when it comes to productivity. “We’re finding our production is the same as other companies who work seven days a week, just because people have better attitudes, people are happy to be here,” he says. “Our employee retention is very high,” Vanessa adds. “We’ve got a lot of employees that have been with us for over a decade. We have very minimal turnover because our employees have a good work-life balance.” Additionally, Triple A provides a very safe work environment – that also contributes to employee retention, and it’s another longstanding personal focus of both Brook and Vanessa.
