Patry Group is a privately-owned, Ontario-based integrated real-estate development company that provides a wide range of rental apartment units and commercial spaces. They are known as one of Kingston and Ottawa’s premier developers, and they have built that reputation a proactive, hands-on approach – on each of their projects, they identify land opportunities early, secure stakeholder alignment, and they embed futureready infrastructure such as EV chargers and solar installations. This philosophy informs every step of their development process, from site selection through construction and leasing, ensuring each project meets present needs while anticipating tomorrow’s demands. Nathan Richard, director of planning and development for Patry Group, joined the team around 2015 after meeting founder Jay Patry. In his role, he blends strategic insight with practical execution to help bring Patry Group’s forwardfocused vision to life across varied projects. These days, most of Patry Group’s activity remains concentrated in Kingston and Ottawa, though the team occasionally takes on projects in Toronto’s competitive market. Nathan explains that these regions pose differing challenges: Kingston’s heritage context and student-driven housing demand; Ottawa’s regulatory nuances; and Toronto’s scale and pace. Yet the firm’s model – managing land identification, approvals, design, construction, and leasing within one coordinated process – allows the team to adapt fluidly. Nathan describes his personal contribution as identifying potential issues early so that, by the time ground is broken, municipal authorities, consultants, and future occupants all understand and support the plan.
